Is It Vegan? Ingredient Checker
Most packaged food is not labelled vegan or not vegan, so the work falls to you and a very small typeface. Paste the ingredients panel below and this will flag the animal-derived entries, the genuinely ambiguous ones, and the handful that sound alarming but are fine.
Only major allergens such as milk and egg must be declared plainly in the US under the federal ingredient-labeling rule (21 CFR 101.4). Gelatin, carmine, and shellac are not allergens, so they hide in plain sight.
